Aussie casino tycoon James Packer recently forego a significant quantity of stocks in his Crown Resorts firm for a reported US$1.8 billion (AU$2.6 billion), and to celebrate, has decided to treat himself to a customized yacht from Italian superyacht builders Benetti.
The premier yacht Benetti has constructed at 354-foot, the US$200 million (AU$289.4 million) production is termed IJE after Packer’s three kids, Indigo, Jackson and Emmanuelle.
The magnificent’gigayacht’ is powered by twin MTU 3,800 hp diesel engines with a top speed of 18.5 knots (34kph) so Packer can island-hop effortlessly from the Med to the reef and anywhere in between.
Produced by British yacht manufacturers RWD, Packer’s fantasy water cruiser is divided into five decks with 11 cabins accommodating 22 guests and 15 crew cabins. Highlights include a theatre, sauna and enormous heated swimming pool. There is more than 10,000sqm of outer deck area that includes a fire pit and outside dining area. There is even room at the back of the IJE for a couple 45-foot tenders.
Australian billionaire, casino mogul and inveterate superyacht collector James Packer has just taken delivery of his most recent plaything, a brand new 354-foot Benetti gigayacht he is named IJE.
The Italian-built floating palace–Benetti’s longest yacht –is estimated to have cost Mariah Carey’s former fiancé around $200 million. It was handed over in the builder’s Livorno lawn, just in time for the prime Mediterranean cruising season.
Packer, 51, who recently sold a stake in his casino business Crown Resorts for a reported $1.8 billion, called the yacht IJE following his three kids: Indigo, Jackson and Emmanuelle.
Do not confuse this, however, with EJI, the 180-foot Dutch-built Amels superyacht which Packer took delivery of in May this past year and off-loaded five months later in September, after listing the yacht for $47 million.
Before EJI, Mr. Packer was the proud owner of this gigantic 288-feet transformed German ice-breaker Artic P, which he gave to his sister Gretel in 2017, before getting the keys to the Amel.
In the past few years, Packer has possessed the 170-foot Amels Seahorse, which he offered in 2015, a 165-foot go-fast Mangusta he termed Z Ellerston and the go-even-faster 150-foot Leopard called Z Sydney.
Obviously the new Benetti is the crown jewel of the Packer armada. Formerly code-named FB275, it is one of three Benetti gigayachts–so-called due to their 100-plus-meter (328-foot) span –being launched this year within 100 days of one another.
IJE has twin MTU 3,800 hp diesels under the’hood’ to provide a top speed of 18.5 knots. Throttle back to 14 and using its 91,000-gallon tanks, the yacht has a selection of 6,500 nautical miles.
The Benetti also includes a 670 hp electrical Schottel pump-jet system for short-distance, low-speed zero-emission cruising–ideal for sneaking from Saint-Tropez late at night without waking the neighbors.
Produced by Britain’s RWD, EJI has a gorgeous five-deck’wedding cake’ aluminum superstructure using a 3,367 GT inside from the drawing boards of Benetti’s in-house staff. In accordance with Benetti, a shocking 500,000-plus man-hours went into producing the interior spaces.
Along with the 11 cottages for guests and 15 for the team of 29, the yacht includes all the toys, like a theatre, sauna, gym and spacious heated pool. The greater than 10,000 square feet of outdoor deck area involves a huge observation deck and over-sized fire pit together with a foredeck with space to accommodate the yacht’s two 45-foot tenders.
Finding time to spend aboard EJI could be Packer’s biggest challenge. Last September he purchased Danny DeVito’s old Holmby Hills mansion in Los Angeles for a reported $80 million, and is thought to own land in Aspen, Palm Beach, Argentina and back home in Sydney where in 2016 he splashed $60 million for a two-floor condo.
